Senate votes to trim Third Frontier extension by half: conference committee awaits

Senate Republicans want to cut almost in half a proposed extension of a program focused on developing high-tech jobs, despite objections from Democrats who say it doesn't go far enough, reports the Columbus Dispatch.

The Senate voted along party lines Tuesday to place on the May 4 ballot a $500-million, four-year extension of the Third Frontier program, which is set to expire in 2012. The resolution will head to a joint House-Senate conference committee, where the chambers will have to compromise quickly to make the Feb. 3 deadline for getting the issue on the May ballot.
