YBI ranked 11th in world by University Business Incubators Index

NAMII, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, and driven by the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM), congratulated its partner and member, the Youngstown Business Incubator (YBI), on its being named one of the top 25 incubators in the world by University Business Incubators Index. YBI was ranked 11th.

New projects to create 591 Ohio jobs

Governor Kasich today announced the approval of assistance for nine projects set to create more than 591 jobs and retain 943 jobs statewide. During the Ohio Tax Credit Authority’s monthly meeting, it reviewed economic development proposals brought to the board by JobsOhio and its regional partners. Together the projects are expected to result in more than $29 million in new payroll and $40 million in investment across Ohio.

Dayton airport lands $4.2m federal grant

The Dayton International Airport is getting a $4.2 million boost from the Federal Aviation Administration for improvements. The FAA announced this week it awarded the grant for construction work at the airport.

Dublin tapped for G-Tekt R&D center, 77 jobs pending tax deal

G-Tekt North America Corp. has chosen a site in Dublin for a proposed research-and-development facility it's pairing with a new manufacturing plant going up in West Jefferson. It's expected to lead to 77 new jobs in the city by the end of next year.

Dayton-based CareSource to hire 260

Dayton-based CareSource says it will hire about 260 people over the next several months. A spokesperson for the downtown company confirmed it projects to add the jobs incrementally by Dec. 31, increasing the number of people employed there from 1,527 to 1,787.

More than 500 businesses headquartered in northeast Ohio

More than 500 businesses are headquartered in the 18-county region that makes up northeast Ohio, adding up to 49,000 jobs, says Tom Waltermire, CEO for Team NEO, which works with several development and chamber groups to promote and market the region.

“There’s a strong concentration of headquarters operations in our area,” notes Waltermire.

Honda to pump $215m into Ohio operations

Honda Motor Co. is upping its recent Ohio investments by another $215 million.

The automaker recently announced another round of upgrades and new construction at facilities in the state, including the addition of new powertrain technology and a technical training center at the Anna Engine Plant and a new 160,000-square-foot building in Marysville that will be home to new office space for Honda North America Services LLC, a new entity housing some jobs and functions relocating from California. It will have about 500 employees, Honda said.

Miami alum soars with Disney on the wings of "Planes"

The world of computer-animated films wasn't on Paul Gerard's radar when he was pursuing a business degree at Miami University.

"I actually was going to get into banking. I had a very circuitous route from Miami University to Hollywood," says Gerard, director of creative development at DisneyToon Studios since 2008. The '89 Miami alum plays a key role in developing stories for films that will come to life on the silver screen.

He's been busy promoting Walt Disney Pictures' latest release, "Planes," which landed in theaters Friday, Aug. 9.

Tax incentives could bring nearly 50 jobs to Dublin

A pair of tax incentive deals could lead to nearly 50 new jobs in Dublin at Decillion Healthcare LLC and ProspeX LLC.
The proposed deals went before Dublin City Council on Monday evening for a first reading, putting them on track to be voted on Aug. 26.

Procter & Gamble eyes Dayton for massive distribution center

Procter & Gamble is eying the Dayton region for a new 2 million-square-foot distribution facility and may have selected a location. Multiple sources have confirmed that the consumer goods giant from Cincinnati has been talking to developers around the area recently about the project.
