When Ohio won the Ohio-Michigan war of 1835-86, Michigan lost more than a border dispute: It lost Toledo.

The outcome of that bloodless event, which involved a slice of northern Ohio now known as the Toledo strip, means Ohioans today can lay claim to the Toledo Mud Hens, Tony Packo's pickles, actor Jamie Farr (remember M.A.S.H.?) and a vibrant economy. Known previously for its heavy-weight manufacturing base – Jeeps have been built there since 1941 and the region has long been known as the "Glass Capital of the World" – Toledo's innovative spirit has quickly put the city on the map as a leader in the solar industry. The University of Toledo is the educational engine of the region, offering 250 degree programs to nearly 21,000 students.

Must-see sites include the restored Sauder Village, the Toledo Museum of Art, the Cedar Point amusement park in nearby Sandusky, The Toledo Zoo and numerous other museums and arts establishments.
