Mansfield boasts a diversified economy, including manufacturing, educational, retail and healthcare sectors. Leading the pack is MedCentral Health System, with almost 2,700 employees. Other leading employers include the Gorman-Rupp Co., AK Steel, Newman Technology, Hyundai Ideal Electric Company, Therm-O-Disc, Crane Plumbing. and carousel manufacturer The Carousel Works. Mansfield has been called one of the most livable cities in America. From its historic Carrousel District (with more that 60 nearby specialty shops and restaurants), to the Mansfield Fire Museum, to nearby Malabar Farm State Park (where Bogey and Bacall tied the knot), Mansfield is a center of historical, cultural and leisure activities. Actor Luke Perry (Beverly Hills 90210) grew up here, and the area has a rich film tradition, beginning with driver safety scare films in the 1950s and '60s. Later, Mansfield hosted filming for The Shawshank Redemption, Air Force One and Tango & Cash.
